About the Hoss

My name is Ryan Breen and I am 22 years old. I am currently studying journalism and Spanish at Colorado State University, from which I will graduate in December of 2008.

I consider myself an expert of Bluegrass music … by no means do I know the majority of Bluegrass bands or what size foot Bill Monroe had, but I do dedicated hours and hours every day to Bluegrass, whether it be at KCSU in the music room reviewing cds or in my living room with my band writing tunes or practicing traditionals.

My Bluegrass radio show, “The Horsetooth Hoedown with the Hoss”, airs Tuesday nights from 9 to 11 p.m. (MST) on 90.5 FM in the Larimer County Area, or on kcsufm.com, from which you are able to stream my show. If you are really interested in my taste in Bluegrass, I recommend you tune into my radio show.

My favorite Bluegrass artists include folks from Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin to Yonder Mountain String Band and Hot Buttered Rum. I feel that it is my obligation to be a critic of Bluegrass music, as I do my best to have an informative radio show about Bluegrass while giving my personal feelings about the Bluegrass music of present and past.

For a better idea of The Hoss, check out an audio interview conducted by my classmate Marie.
